Heavy thunderstorms on Monday brought some severe weather and up to 7" of rain in a few locations across our area.  Meanwhile over the southern US record heat prevailed with heat indexes rising to near 120 degrees.  This is being caused by a large ridge of high pressure over the south and an active northerly jet stream.  This pattern will persist into the upcoming weekend.
